Yeah, if multiple enemies are involved, they shouldn't have as much health as you unless it's a harder difficulty setting.

before you came on board dex. When we were all dead serious about the game and I was often the first person in chat. That was before the whole BGL vs Mugen thing.
And one button for a breath attack would make the game far too easy, you could just spam that move until you win. Every fighting game has complicated combos.
That didn't stop G:DAMM, G:STE, GU, G:MOM, Kaiju Oh Godzilla, and GTB.

An energy meter can open up a bunch of possibilities ;)
There's a lot of reasons for and against a one-button breath attack. I did find the combo system frustrating, but then again I generally do fairly good in the game using most characters without using combos anyway.

I don't think it's worth arguing over since TGTW is generally a done deal.

Back on-topic, who e nded up being the fourth character in the demo? I'd downloaod and find out but my current computer is shit and can't hold games.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

That may be true, but the enemies wouldn't be much of a threat if they did hardly any damage. We'll probably lower their attack strength in the final game, but we won't be making them too weak. The finished game won't be easy to beat.

There are going to be less enemies on lower difficulty settings when the game is finished, there aren't very many differences between the difficulty settings in the demo.

The 8th wonder of the world of course. King Kong won with significantly more votes then the other other characters. Kiryu and Anguirus were runner ups.

Best kaiju game ever. Like, seriously, awesome to play and full of cool little nods to the films that make it up. Ten out of ten. Worth waiting for.

One button for a breath attack would've been fair if there was a limit to how often it could have been used. Having to use a specific directional pattern before pressing a button to unleash it is okay for a fighting game. But this is a beat-'em-up.

Look at games like Final Fight, Double Dragon, and River City Ransom for reference on how to make a challenging game but still be balanced.
I think the game is pretty balanced for a demo. The early levels are a little tough, but we will make them easier once we have the other levels completed.

While we could have done that we felt directional inputs were the way to go. All the inputs in the game are fairly simple, we didn't put in any overcomplicated ones.

Okay, I'm pretty new to this but I'm trying to run this demo on my mac. I've downloaded the latest openbor and I'm in the Darwin folder but when I open it it says that there aren't any mods in pak folder. But the Darwin folder is the only folder that doesn't have a pak folder. I'm confused and have tried looking for help all over the boards but there isn't a lot of mac help. Does anyone know where I have to place the demo once extracted?
Any helps would be awesome. Thanks.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I figure it's better to reuse this thread as opposed to starting a new one.

It has been far too long since my brother and I released our last demo. After about a year we finally have a new demo ready! Before we release it we want to find out who should be the fifth playable character.

Here is the video on Youtube showing off some gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnCt_6ZZ ... ature=plcp

And the poll: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/568959

Just played it for the first time:
Not a fan of how tiny the screen is, though that may just be the program's fault
The sheer number of characters is impressive by itself, let alone how great they all look
The different attacks are confusing on how to use, but that may be more of a result of how I just skimmed over the instructions
Fantastic music!
NOT a fan of Kumonga! Attacks very rapidly so it's hard to strike back, low body so he has a low area of hittability (shush it's a word), and a very long ranged attack that leaves you completely immobile. Absolutely nasty with any other enemies on the screen.
Also not a fan of the lack of a pause, though I guess the in-between waves lull counts

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :) . A few of the problems you have with it can be easily fixed.

.The screen size can be adjusted. Select Options at the main menu, then video options, and then switch the display mode from window to full.

. You can pause the game with the start button. In the control options you can change your control setup to your liking.

. Kumounga is a tough SOB just like he was in Son of Godzilla. You should be able to fix the problem with some good old fashioned beam spamming, hit and run tactics if you are playing as Rodan or Ultraman, and grab attacks. If his low area of "hittability" is giving you trouble try moving down slightly and then attacking him. If he has too much backup try to eliminate them quickly, and throw Kumounga away to give yourself time to do so.

And to the Kumonga prob, every time I run into one I hit it and run a few times before I nuclear pulse it to death.

Also How do you save the vids you record?

And one more thing...why the F**K do you make these Kaiju such rapid fighters and so durable

We've been using Hypercam2 to record our recent videos, you might have to change the recording options if you want to use it.

Kaiju are supposed to be pretty durable. As for the rapid speed, we went for a Showa/FW feel to the combat as opposed to the slower feel given off by the Heisei films. We felt the game would be more fun if it felt like you weren't playing the game in slow motion ;) .

A kaiju beat-em-up game? Count me in.
"Am I glad he's frozen in there and that we're out here, and that he's the sheriff, and that we're frozen out here, and that we're in there and I just remembered we're out here. What I wanna know is where's the caveman?"

Love this game vey intertaining.
And did you ever think of having a custom game maker? Where maybe the player can choose the scenery and what kaiju to fight anf if he wants to fight a boss in the end and what boss it is.

Thanks, glad you like it . :)
We won't be making a custom game maker for it, but OpenBor is a great program to make games with. The forum Chrono Crash is a great place to start if you want to try making games with OpenBor. Also after we finish making this game we plan on creating standalone games for Godzilla and Ultraman (and Gamera if we can get sprites for his enemies). The Godzilla game will be like something along the lines of Godzilla: Battle Legends meets King of the Monsters 2, and the Ultraman game will feature most of the Kaiju battles from the original series.
