Chapter 1: Awakening
Deep beneath the ocean waves, far below the surface, a slumbering giant awoke. Shifting himself slightly, blazing orange eyes piercing the murky water around him, a titan of mythical proportions raised himself up out of his resting position. How long had it been since he had gone to sleep? Had the surface world changed since his absence? So many questions, so many things he needed answers to. With a motion of his powerful tail, the being swam up out of the deep oceanic waters and into a bright light that rotated like a whirlpool. White encompassed his vision for a few brief moments before the familiar sight of deep blue water came into view again. A low rumble emanated from the being as he swam up, higher and higher until he breached the surface, taking in a breath of air. From what he could tell, the surface world hadn’t changed much. The sun was rising in the distance, casting a warm orange glow on both the water and the being’s form. The titan took a long moment to watch the sun before sensing….something. Whatever it was, it was odd, as it wasn’t another potential rival. At the same time, it didn’t quite have the mark of the strange creatures who made odd devices and lived in large rectangular blocks of metal. Whatever this was, it intrigued him. Diving beneath the waves again, the titan let out a loud underwater roar, signifying himself to the world he swore to keep balance for.
Godzilla was on the move again.
“I can’t believe this Ayanami,” said destroyer Yukikaze as she turned around to look at her friend. “The talents of Yukikaze the great could be put to much better use than simple routine patrols-nanoda.”
“Try to watch where you’re going, it wouldn’t do to have you crashing into something at this speed.” Ayanami replied flatly. “There may not appear to be anything out here, but we should always be on guard dess.”
“Yukikaze-sama has no need- Uah!” she was cut off by the sound of herself crashing down into the water. She rolled a short distance, splashing water all over Ayanami before coming to a stop. Ayanami was about to reach her hand down to help her up, only to suddenly grip the hilt of her blade, looking around. “A-Ayanami, what is it?” She waited a moment before responding
“...Something doesn’t feel right.” The lucky ship scrambled to her feet, even more confused than her companion, “The demon,” was.
A slight shift in the water current solidified the two’s suspicions. A ripple slid towards Yukikaze and Ayanami as a dark shape began to approach them. Yukikaze was the first to see it. She gave the back of Ayanami’s top a light tug, pointing at the shape when Ayanami glanced over in response. She pulled her sword out, while Yukikaze practically hid behind her.
“Looks like this isn’t just a routine patrol anymore Yuki.”
“C-clearly this is nothing worth reporting. The great and f-fearless Yukikaze would never cower before something as obviously not scary as this.” She lied.
Out of the water, 3 rows of maple-leaf shaped dorsal plates breached the surface, water flowing off the over 15 feet high structures. Whatever it was, it stayed stationary, casting an ominous presence over the two.
“Get ready to run. We have no clue what we’re up against, for all we know it could be a new kind of Siren weapon. The higher ups will want to know about this...” She had entered her battle stance, ready to make her move the moment the opportunity presented itself. She was also prepared to drag Yukikaze along should she prove she hadn’t done the same.
Without warning, whatever the thing was moved again, rising up out of the water. A spray of water flew off of the thing, which was revealed...to be the tip of a tail. Ayanami backed up, pulling Yukikaze with her, as she tried to take in what she was looking at. Slowly but surely. The rest of the owner of the tail’s colossal form rose like a living mountain out of the water, enormous dorsal fins lining his back. Turning around, the titanic monstrosity spotted Yukikaze and Ayanami, his eyes colored a blazing orange.
At this point Anayami was the one losing her composure, and it was Yukikaze who grabbed onto her and bolted, crying out unintelligibly as she dragged Ayanami across the water, trying to get away as fast as possible. The titanic beast let out an ear splitting roar as he dove beneath the waves, sending up an enormous splash of water that rained down on Yukikaze and Ayanami. However, for seemingly no reason that wave suddenly turned in on itself, stopping short of them. Yukikaze hardly noticed and kept speeding away. The titan suddenly erupted out of the water in front of the two, roaring again as his frame blocked their path. This happened at the precise moment she looked back to see if it was following them, so she crashed right into it, hitting her head and once again falling to the surface of the water. Eying the two insignificant beings in front of him, the titan growled in a low tone as he leaned down to inspect them before letting out another roar right in their proximity.
“...ahh!!” screamed both destroyers- though one was much louder than the other- and they both slowly moved back. ‘Seems like running isn’t really an option…’ was the only thought they shared. The titan examined the two carefully. Seems they weren’t the ones that he had sensed in the first place...the titan huffed as he turned around and dove beneath the surface of the water, sending up another huge wave. The girls looked at each other right afterwards, trying to process what had just transpired.
“WH-what just happened?” Asked Yukikaze, to which Ayanami shook her head. Over the next few moments, they managed to catch their breaths, and with a silent nod they picked themselves up and started making their way back to base.
