Why don't we shift gears to a different topic all together?
I mean no offense, but this conversation is a little too important to be shut down just because goji89 is getting aggressive. I'd prefer eliminating as much doubt as possible, if not for the people I'm debating against, then at least for whoever may be reading this. If that gets me a warning, so be it. It'll be well worth it.

Well not everyone trusts "trusted sources." The pharmaceutical industry, American healthcare system, and frankly most doctors I've met are nowhere near above reproach. It doesn't help that if one even dares to wonder if the vaccine is fully safe they typically get chased out of town with pitchforks. (Though I understand that unfortunately most people who question the safety of the vax aren't interested in conversation.)
Myself and many people I know have got by just fine wearing masks and being hygienic. What really pissed me off was all the people who got the vax and suddenly decided covid was over, went around everywhere without a mask, and now are bitching that they have to mask up again. I think it was silly for Fauci to try and incentivize people to get the vax with the promise of it being safe to take the mask off, and it's a good example of people maybe trusting their "trusted sources" too far.
Fauci's just one man. Back in April I worked volunteer hours at a Covid Vaccine clinic. Every single doctor there would advise people in advance that they should still wear masks and socially distance even after getting two doses of the vaccine. My parents, both of whom are doctors, also press that advice. Even if you decide to "do your own research" and look up the question on google, you'll find
multiple respected sources advising the same.
At the end of the day, it's about trusting medical professionals during a global crisis. And when most medical professionals around the globe – not just in America – are pressing for people to get vaccinated, then what's more likely? That there's some big global conspiracy? Or that the vaccines are shown to be safe and effective at drastically reducing the risk of severe illness from Covid? I must stress again, both of my parents are doctors. They pressed me, my siblings, and my extended family to get the vaccine as early as we possibly could. Shouldn't that show that there's no ulterior motive at play?

Yes, I find it hard to believe that this shot is safe given that people still die from Covid even when they are fully vaccinated.
While fully vaccinated people can die of covid, that's not a reason to not get the vaccine. Especially since the data shows a
significant reduction in mortality for vaccinated individuals compared to vaccinated individuals.
It's like saying people die in car crashes despite buckling their seat belts, so I shouldn't wear a seat belt. I mean, even Donald Trump (who touted the myth of vaccines causing autism) had the wherewithall to take the shot.
You did a good job of countering most of goji89's points, but I wanted to add something to this.
Studies show that for every 1,000 people who received a double dose of the vaccine, only two contracted severe cases of Covid-19.
The vaccine doesn't make you immune, that's true. It doesn't guarantee your safety. But it's pretty damn effective at
reducing the risk of hospitalization or death.
This is a plea directed towards anyone who may be reading this: If you're still on the fence,
please consider vaccinating. Do this not just for yourself, but for the sake of your friends, your family, and your children.
Especially your children, who aren't protected if they're under twelve years of age.
Especially your children, who
ARE at risk of dying from covid, or
developing long-term complications. There's no good reason
not to vaccinate.
