This page has a great photo from the '33 film that has Kong, Driscoll, and the Two-Legged Lizard all in frame together. Perfect for determining the scale when I make my own TLL from Sculpey.

You also get a good profile look at the TLL in Jackson's '33 Spider Pit recreation.

Kind of random, but is there zero chance of a '62 Kong figure being made? I am not sure how the licensing works with it, so I don't wanna get my hopes up.

I've been hoping for a while, as I don't want to drop a hundred-plus on an old vinyl, but the rights seem to be caught up in some sort of legal weirdness. One of my first things I put on my wishlist when Super7 said they would be hopping on the Kaiju train was that Kong, but they flat out said they couldn't do it.

On the bright side, King Kong Escapes is on Svengoolie next week, which may bring some more attention to that one.

And here's the 'in color' pick of the Papo Pteranodon, the axe I made out of an old pen, bug wing parts, etc, and a D&D mini with some Creative Beasts environment parts. I can't claim this makes one lick of sense cost/effort-wise but in my own head it looks good and the axe clips AROUND the hand so I didn't have to drill anything.

The Papo Pteranodon arrived. While head articulation would've been nice, I can't complain for $10. The detail is incredible at this size. Definitely '33 movie accurate scale with the Neca Kong. And it easily grips the Mezco Ann Darrow accessory figure.

This 1976 King Kong promotional resin statue is only $4,000! A bargain!

You know that iconic scream Fay Wray was famous for? I just made it when I saw the cost...

Jesus I get it, it probably has some value to fans of that movie or crazy kong fans but for that price i could get the bust of godzilla vs kong that looks way more impressive than that.

So...um...for those of us who need to do a down payment on a CAR instead, what if I just took my existing Kong, and tried to take a picture way up close so it looks REALLY big and...? (things like this make my unwillingness to pay $30 to import the mini-Skullcrawler look very silly, I admit it...)

You could try the RotoKaiju kit if it’s still available. Though it’s not exactly cheap.

YMSF has said the 1962 Kong will become available again near the end of this year or something to that extant.

I was in Target today and they had all three neca Kongs. Multiples of each even.

Gotta be honest, I think the first release had the best head sculpt. The newer one comes with better accessories. The jaw articulation is nice it also kinda hinders the head sculpt. Also, it had way more bloody battle scars (or at the very least they were painted far more obviously) on the face which really hampers the look IMO. I don’t mind the battle scars, but they were just overdone and becoming obtrusive on the new head sculpt.

Was very tempted to pick one up but I’ve got way too many SHMA on preorder (including Kong) and I need to slow down…

It takes some planet sized chutzpah to split up all those dope accessories between two IDENTICAL figures (from what I can tell anyways)

Was the Kong with the biplane there? If you count the Famous Monsters variant, there are four different figures - original, Famous Monsters variant, Pit Monsters variant, Biplane variant.

There’s a biplane variant? I didn’t even know about that. Guess I didn’t look closely enough to know for certain

Yep: https://news.toyark.com/2021/05/16/neca ... man-427942

For those of you looking for a good "Meat Eater" opponent for NECA/Mezco Kong, these figures by Rebor just went up for preorder. They have articulated jaws and arms and are about 8 inches tall.

I would get either one of them, and display them next to my BOTM Atrociraptor, who would look really awkward and want to not be in the same picture. I love the design! I think I like the head on the green one more, but the purple would go better with the wacky colors on Illustrated Kong.

There are more variations coming in the future too!

Looks like BBTS is getting more stock of the original X-Plus Kong: Skull Island Kong.
