Probably the destruction scene from Gojira 1954 or the one in Destroy All Monsters

The destruction of the Chrysler Building and Madison Square Garden in 1998, IMO, are the best (and realistic looking) destruction in the franchise.

Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster have the most intricate, intense destruction sequences I can think of off the top of my head.

Titanosaurus and Mechagodzilla II’s rampage in TOMG made my jaw drop when I first saw it.

Godzilla’s rampage in 84 is menacing as hell.

I’ve always been partial to FW’s destruction scenes, individually they’re not much except Rodan in New York, but when they’re all put together it sells global chaos and decimation amazingly.

Shin Godzilla’s atomic breath scene. Seeing the city become a molten hellhole in a few moments is insane, and makes Shin live up to the “god” interpretation of the title perfectly.

Hong Kong in GvK. This war of Titans turning the city into a wasteland is a sight to behold as Godzilla rips apart dozens of buildings with his ray just to get at Kong, so is Mechagodzilla emerging from the mountain and making the devastation even worse.

SP spoiler
Spoiler:
Ultima’s atomic ray. The music, the buildings melting on contact with the beam, and the shot of the city on fire afterwards before it zooms in to Ultima’s face. Just, splendid.

The second attack in G54 has some great visuals with the fire. It also shows Godzilla as a savage animal when he bites Tokyo Tower and tears down the clock.

Rodan and Mothra are both good examples of wind destruction. Rodan raises clouds of dust and blows roofs and objects around with ease. Imago Mothra does the same, but on a scale that feels larger.

The best ones, though, are the rampage in G vs Gigan. You have Gigan gleefully smashing and sawing through everything in his path while Ghidorah rains down gravity beams. Shin also has an impressive destruction scene. Godzilla stands in one spot, but reduces half the city into ruins.

Godzilla destroying the electrical towers in the original film.

The flight destruction in Rodan.

The Mothra larvae prop plowing through miniatures in Mothra.

Any destruction scene in Destroy All Monsters.

Mechagodzilla taking out buildings in Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla blowing up an oil refinery in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.

Godzilla lighting up Tokyo at the end of Godzilla 2000.

The awakening scene in Shin Godzilla.

The Hong Kong battle in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Crap, forgot about the Gamera trilogy! Between those three movies, you have the greatest amount of quality destruction sequences in the entire genre IMO.

Godzilla 2014’s destruction scenes are all gorgeously Gothic, almost like murals. You can really feel the destruction and chaos as buildings collapse, and the EMP means that you have very little direct lighting.

Kaiser wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2015 10:13 am I've always been a huge fan of Godzilla's attack on Osaka in Godzilla vs. Biollante. The lighting in particular is outstanding for that scene. Godzilla's attack on Nagoya in Mothra vs. Godzilla also really sticks out in my mind as even though the destruction is light, both the scenes with the TV tower and Nagoya Castle are memorable and more of less iconic as far as Godzilla scenes go. Brief shout outs to Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus attacking Yokosuka in Terror of Mechagodzilla and Godzilla's rampage through Shizuoka in GMK.
I thought Mechagodzilla 2 and Titanosaurus destroyed Tokyo in Terror of Mechagodzilla.

I saw this thread and thought it was a new thread by Rodan who had finally come back again

Unfortunate

Hmm I haven't actually settled on my favorite destruction sequence, a rewatch is in order!

I guess it's closer to Yokohama? I thought it was Tokyo too but that's probably because in the dub I believe Mugal said "destroy Tokyo!" I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind the American release figured the audience would just assume Tokyo because giant monsters were smashing it.

Yeah, I guess so. Still, it is an excellent scene, even though Titanosaurus didn't create whirlwinds with his tail as the Japanese poster showed him doing and the article in Fangoria #1 said he could do (and by whirlwinds, I mean tornadoes).
