Godzilla 2
Story:

In the near future, Godzilla goes up against an incredibly advanced computer system, which demploys its own defenses to stop the creature. Godzilla now must confront enourmous mechanized machines in order to reach the central computer.

Background:

Often referred to as Godzilla vs. Gunhed, this was the original idea for the 1989 Godzilla film. The concept for the film came from a story contest Toho held in 1986, which was to decide on the narrative for the next installment in the Heisei Godzilla series. Jim Bannon was the contestant who was noted for his Godzilla 2 script, which had Godzilla facing off against a giant computer, but was beat out by Shinichiro Kobayashi with his early draft for Godzilla vs. Biollante, which at a time was called Godzilla 2: Godzilla vs. Biollante. However, Toho didn't scrap Bannon's second place entry, but instead had Masato Harada heavily rework the idea, removing Godzilla and other elements from the film, until they were left with the final product: the infamous Gunhed (1989).

Note: it's unknown if the original giant mech was going to be Gunhed, the Aerobot, or something different altogether. Pictured above is the Aerobot from Gunhed (1989).
