IGN has dropped word of Criteiron's latest effort: a three disc set for Toho's most famous production Seven Samurai (1954). The disc promises a much better transfer compared to their previous region 1 effort, while also boasting all of the content found on Toho's region 2 version of the film. Below is a run down of the known details about this release:

• Two audio commentaries from Japanese film scholars
• A 50-minute "Toho Masterworks" documentary on the making of Seven Samurai
• 2 hour video of a conversation with Akira Kurosawa and Nagisa Oshima that was produced by the Directors Guild of Japan
• A new documentary looking at the origins and influences behind the film
• Trailers and a teaser
• Poster and production still galleries
• Booklet with essays by Peter Cowie, Philip Kemp, Peggy Chiao, Alain Silver, Kenneth Turan, Stuart Galbraith, Arthur Penn, and Sindey Lumet along with an interview with star Toshiro Mifune

The release will be available on September 5, 2006 and will retail for $49.95. The set is region 1.
