It's almost ironic that from Showa to Heisei, Gyaos goes from goofy to badass while Rodan goes from awesome ('56 at least) to stiff.

Fire Rodan was disgustingly bad, while Gyaos was competently handled. I prefer the Showa incarnations for both, though. Something about Showa Gyaos is just so much creepier to me than his Heisei counterpart.

I like how they re-designed Gyaos' wings. They feel much more natural. I like how they fold up. It bothers me when flying monsters have they're wings sticking out all of the time even if they're on land. Not so much in the older films, but in the modern ones.

Probably the freakish, upturned eyes and triangle head.

Fire Rodan for the addition of the beam, all Super Gyaos got was a movable neck and sunlight tolerance.

Yes. Because every monster needs a beam.

Super Gyaos also had a vastly improved design, by the way. Rodan...while I like the Heisei version, it is not much better than Showa.

I love Heisei Rodan. He looks sleek and agile, as a dogfighter should, while still retaining some of the powerful look the original had.

That being said, his execution was ***ty. Heisei Gyaos was done far better.

Fully agree. Words can not describe how disappointed I was the first time I saw Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Rodan really was just thrown in there to show how powerful the other two characters were, and I was very disheartened to not see Rodan be able to chip in at all in the final battle outside of sacrificing himself. Although keep in mind I'm obviously biased since the Showa Rodan is my favorite Toho monster.

Anyway, I agree that Heisei Gyaos was given a far better update. Vicious and menacing in a way that none of the other Heisei Gamera foes were able to convey.

And Gyaos had more energy. He didn't just stand there and shoot lasers, or fly around dropping Gamera. It was an active and viscious fight.
