I remember being super disappointed by that name. Name it Thanatos or something. Anything but the name of the species/weapon type (??) with a boring adjective.
How about a MAN that is... SUPER. Or a MAN that dresses like... A BAT! Or a LANTERN that is... GREEN! Or a MAN that dresses in... IRON. Or a CAPTAIN that is from... AMERICA. Or a WOMAN who acts like a... CAT! Or a MAN bitten by a radioactive... SPIDER!
Superheroes are different from kaiju. that's because the latter is way more interesting and should be recognized more

It also just doesn't really gel with the naming convention of previous Pacific Rim monsters.

Me, too. Judging by the plot synopsis, it seems to be focused on one of the "bootleg" Jaegers, which was IMO one of the most interesting parts of PR2.

Color me cautiously optimistic
I know this comment is old but ULTRAMAN was animated by Production I.G and SOLA Digital Arts, not Polygon. The same studios collaborated once again for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.

Yeah honestly lol. We've gotten zero news on this thing since it was announced, i don't even think it's happening.

I honestly don’t care if it happens. I’m perfectly content with the first film and all it’s ancillary media. I don’t need an extension or continuation of the universe.

It was, for an extremely brief moment.

The anime is titled "PACIFIC RIM: THE BLACK" and is expected to see a release sometime in 2021.
Long ago, humanity defeated the Kaiju. Now, they’re evacuating Australia. In 2021 join a pair of siblings and their battered, long-abandoned Jaegar as they battle across a continent of danger in Pacific Rim: The Black.

That's a weird name. I hope the right translation is The Dark Continent.

Astounding Beyond Belief on Tumblr found this - the opening sequence of the series (featuring a few familiar faces):

I honestly thought this was dead. Frankly, Uprising killed the franchise for me - well, it did kill the film franchise - but I'll check this out.
