Re: Tokyo S.O.S question, and also a G vs. Destoroyah questi
Dubs in general scare me. Subtitles are much better, though they made the same mistake in my copy. Plus, I don't think there's an English word that matches the various uses of the Japanese one.
Reboot: coda 1G65R34... Weapons Status: functioning... Recoding Mainframe... Video Sensors: recording... Mecha-Anguirus now Online.

Re: Toyko sos qustion
Here's a better question: How does Chujo (senior) know about Mothra's scale's being her "final attack?" She doesn't use them in MOTHRA (1961), and the events of MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA aren't canon with the Kiryu film's timeline. It's also the first time Mothra has shown up in 43 years, so it's not like it's been seen using it before.
It was just something I noticed the other day. Maybe it's just the dubtitles..but it's pretty clear that he recognizes it as Mothra's final attack, yet he's never seen her use it. I'm guessing we can just assume that Dr. Chujo already knows a lot about the anatomy of Mothra? That's the only thing "in-universe" explanation for him knowing about such a thing.

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

Re: Toyko sos qustion
^^That would explain Mothra having it in the first place. I'd say he probably learned about it somewhere in between the films, studying Mothra.

There was a line like this in Mothra vs. Godzilla, not so sure about S.O.S though..Gawdziller wrote:Wasn't there a line about normal sized moths being able to do it?

Kiryu did it on its own, actually.Chris55 wrote:Just gets dumped out to sea by the misunderstood pilot who had to take over controlling Kiryu because he got damaged and couldn't fight. You know, like in the movie before it.Godzillafan642 wrote:Hi does godzilla die in toyko sos
Not really. There was a far more prominent spiritual element in TSOS, and the human drama was very different. That's a little like saying Star Wars was the same as Return of the Jedi because the Rebels were trying to destroy a Death Star and did so in a similar fashion (hitting the reactor core).Chris55 wrote:Same script basically. He has a blade that can come out of his right arm, but I think that's the only sword thing he has.

^Kiryu is carried by jets in both films, which I always thought was a little lame.

It took me a few viewings to get used to it, but for exactly the reasons you stated, I gradually accepted it; it just makes perfect sense.Cimmerian Dragon wrote:Why? Kiryu is essentially a military vehicle, and it has a finite amount of fuel/power. If you can deploy your weapon on the battlefield at full power, carry it there and devote the fuel it's not using for travel in a better way, why not do so? I thought the transport planes were a surprisingly practical detail in the movie.tymon wrote:^Kiryu is carried by jets in both films, which I always thought was a little lame.

Re: Toyko sos qustion
So in a film that has a giant robot with fifty year old atomic dinosaur bones controlling its actions/emotions, we're supposed think about practical details? Alrighty. It's a minor gripe, yes, I just think it would have been cooler if he flew by himself like the other MGs. Inconsistent attempts at "realism" don't impress me.Cimmerian Dragon wrote:Why?
