A petition isn't going to work we need to snail mail (most effective method) a company to license the show. Right now our best bet is either Media Blasters (already has a good business relationship with Toho) or Shout Factory.

It was 26 episodes. Godzilla is in episodes 4, 11, 15, 21, 25 (ha, his last fight is in the second to last one). Gigan is in episode 11. King Ghidorah is in episode 5 and 6.[/quote]dogora wrote:kay id still defiantly get it just to see th giygan/ghidorah/godzilla epsodesTohosaurus wrote:Just one season ran in 1973 with a total of 20-something episodes.dogora wrote:actually just wond3ring ho many zone series were there?

Jim Ballard did a great ZONE FIGHTER Series Guide that should answer any questions you (or anyone else here) has about the show...dogora wrote:actually just wond3ring ho many zone series were there?

Good video. I'm thinking I might share the word a little over on KaijuPhile, but they seem kinda dead. Should I?

Did Mill Creek (or preexisting distributer) buy the rights to both of those series through TBS & Nippon respectively? Or did they just buy the rights from an American distributer who's rights have yet expired?Inferno Rodan wrote: Iron King and Red Baron are FAR more obscure and also lack the draw of Godzilla (5 eps is 5 eps), and they still managed to get DVD releases.
I'm seriously asking this question because that's where the probability of this series being released on R1 lies.

I can see the ZF episodes with Godzilla being released as special features in a movie-based DVD but I can't see a whole series release but hey, I'm in support of it
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

BCI licensed RED BARON and IRON KING from Senko Kikaku, the owners of Senkosha Productions. Mill Creek acquired the shows when they purchased some of BCI's library after that company folded.Malchik wrote:Did Mill Creek (or preexisting distributer) buy the rights to both of those series through TBS & Nippon respectively? I think ZONE FIGHTER would be a natural for a US release. Several distributors (Media Blasters, Shout! Factory, BCI, Mill Creek, Joyplex, AnimEigo) have released complete series in North America, and that includes a lot of shows that are more obscure/less marketable than a Toho monster series. All of Toho's monster movies (not counting some co-productions) have been released in the US either theatrically, on TV, or on video, so there's clearly a long established market for that product here. I would just pitch ZONE FIGHTER as the only live action Toho production featuring Godzilla and other Toho monsters that has never been released in this country.JVM wrote:I can see the ZF episodes with Godzilla being released as special features in a movie-based DVD but I can't see a whole series release but hey, I'm in support of it

Re: Zone Fighter DVD?
It would be awesome if Zone Fighter got released outside of Japan.
I would like to help support this cause. So I'm wondering how persistent I should be. Also, when should I send the letter? Someone mentioned it would be a better idea if all the letters came in at once, and I agree.

Perhaps we should do a roll call of who's on board with this?

Re: Zone Fighter DVD?
A though occurred to me.
Since it might be too expensive to bring the show over here, why we try to ask Toho to re-release in Japan. The Japanese DVDs seem to be OOP and the prices for used copies of both the box set and the single disc releases on Amazon Japan are quite exuberant. Maybe we could somehow get Toho to reissue them on DVD, or better yet, have them remastered for Blu-ray. I know this is pretty much a pipe dream, but hey, it's an idea.

Couple things never occurred to me: Was Zone Fighter shot on 16mm or Magnetic Tape?
Do the existing materials still look good today? I've never actually seen footage from that supposed R2 release, does it look any good?

Re: Zone Fighter DVD?
Besides American (or any non-Japanese) fans requesting the release of any film/show on Japanese DVD/Blu-ray wouldn't matter to Toho because we're not in Japan. The Japanese discs are made for Japanese customers, so it would have to be those fans pushing for a new release.Legion1979 wrote:I'm sure Toho will do this eventually, but even when new it would be far too expensive for most wallets. A single Japanese blu-ray costs over $50, and the Ultra Q box set that was released this past Summer ended up costing somewhere in the neighborhood of $400. So having this series available again on R2 or Japanese blu-ray doesn't really solve anything, since it would be too expensive regardless, nor would they be subtitled.John Pannozzi wrote:A though occurred to me.

It's not a "supposed R2 release"... the series was released on DVD in 2001. The episode guide on SciFi Japan uses screenshots from the DVDs so take a look and judge the quality with your own eyes...Space Hunter M wrote:Couple things never occurred to me: Was Zone Fighter shot on 16mm or Magnetic Tape?
