Awesome. Very glad to hear that about GTTHM.TitanosaurusFan wrote:Yeah, the best looking films in the set besides '54 are GTTHM and Megalon.

Couldn't agree more about the classic media set/releasesStatcat wrote:Find this set to be okay but nowhere up to criterion standards thanks to Toho. The disc holder is atrocious for the amount of money this costs and I’m not crazy about it only being 8 discs. Some of the artwork is okay while most of it looks like fan art you’d see on deviantart. The 2007 classic media box set was way classier looking. I happily bought someone’s blu ray and dvd collection who wanted to replace them with the criterion set.

I think that Universal should buy out Criterion. That way, the Japanese cut of KKvG can be permanently out of legal limbo.

That would be a disaster.

LegendZilla has suggested Universal buying out Criterion several times now. It's really freaking weird.
Also, we live in a world where Eegah! looks better than pretty much every Godzilla movie.

The last thing any facet of the film industry needs is more smaller or relatively independent entities being swallowed by the majors, especially as the majors begin to swallow each other. It's a terrible idea and runs directly counter to the point of a label like Criterion, and simplifying the legal status of one film would not begin to compensate for that.

That's a fucking idiotic reason to have a large megacorp, especially one as greedy and evil as Comcast, buy out an independent business that's good to its customers.LegendZilla wrote:I think that Universal should buy out Criterion. This is an odd response for a couple reasons, not the least of which is that we're talking about a fantasy scenario.LegendZilla wrote:Welcome to the real world.omgitsgodzilla wrote:The last thing any facet of the film industry needs is more smaller or relatively independent entities being swallowed by the majors, especially as the majors begin to swallow each other. LegendZilla is always saying oddball stuff, so "Welcome to the real world" as a response to an already bizarre proposition isn't even weird coming from him. It was unintentionally hilarious though!
Kind of interesting how discussion of this set has screeched to a halt over the past few weeks. I guess people figured out there really isn't much to say about it that hasn't already been said.

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

Could be, but I expect in nine-days time or so Santa may have delivered a few more copies into forum members' eager hands. I said “welcome to the real world” because not that it will happen, but rather it could.

I hope fans that view the FX & outtakes documentary will seek out the non-genre tokusatsu films from Toho. Tsuburaya’s especially have incredible special effects work.
