It may have been meant to make Anguirus look tougher, like a puffer fish puffing out to intimidate predators.

Fortunately, later incarnations had the spiked carapace firmly attached.

I kinda like the flapped look. Makes 'I'm seem flexible and agile. Like an armored speedster. The rigid carapace has to be at least a little hard to move in.

Actually in Raids Again his carapace is split in two. My guess is it could come apart, never did. Because I just watch a clip where you can see a firm line going down his carapace, separation the two half's.

We did. A whole movie was based around it. It was called "GINO".

Ok, so was his shell splitting in two just a part of the final disign? I mean did they intended it to do that?

I always just though it was just bad flaw in the suit like being able to see the zipper or something.

It would have been awesome if he did against Godzilla before they fought!

I have a book with a photo with this, it was a composite shot with the 1954 G suit in the backround but the A suit had the split carapace. The book also called Angy "The fire breathing Armadillo".

Dead serious.

Yeah, on of the original ideas was for Anguirus to blow fire and the carapace was supose to open while he did it

I dont like the idea for Anguirus but if they gave this ability to another monster i wont mind.

That's freakin' hilarious! I never thought it that way. Stock footage for the past, and real footage in the future. Anguirus's fangs do grow at an odd angle, so that's a perfect "in universe" explanation.

It would have been neat to have had him in Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla II, and fight Mechagodzilla! G-Force already had plans to ship Godzilla to the Bonin Islands so it would have been nice to have another Monster Island.

I'd like to know what the official explanation on Anguirus's origin is? Did Godzilla just happen to stumble onto another island with another prehistoric beast?

And if the Destroy All Monsters is a second Anguirus, and all the other monsters were already established, was he the original monster on Monster Island?

Giga Kaiju wrote:Maybe for using the suit a lot...i dont know maybe they forgot about that detail and didnt think of a timeline at
that moment.
What's odd is that, by the time The Return of Godzilla was released, they had an Anguirus suit in storage that still had the fangs on it.

So either they:

1. Put the fangs back on after filming
2. Had several suits (most likely, since we saw a very deteriorated suit used for the swimming scenes in Godzilla vs. Gigan) and only modified one
3. Created a new suit for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
If it bites... don't mess with it!

Same here, Anguirus is beast. The closest we'll probably get to that is that one shape-shifting monster:

I do like the original suit's more formidable, crocodile-like face. However, considering how Anguirus became more or less a protagonist in the later films, it probably just as well his design was modified.

It looks too different to simply have lost its fangs. I think it is an alternate suit.
