Giant Sea Snake from KKE official name?

Post by o.supreme »

Greetings All,

I am making a list of Toho Kaiju for myself, and am trying to get away from generic names. For example, I have the name for the Giant Octopus form KK vs Godzilla as "Oodako" , and the Giant Condor from G vs The Sea Monster as "Daikondru", but I cant seem to find an English Translation for the Japanses characters for the creature we most commonly call the Giant Sea Snake from KKE. Its not a matter of being lazy, I have searched, but maybe your collective talents are better than mine. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

The names "Oodako" and "Daikondoru" are Japanese for "giant octopus" and "giant condor," respectively. They are not legit names. I assume Toho doesn't see them as important enough to even have names.

But, if you still want to know what "giant sea snake" is in Japanese, it's "dai-umihebi".

^ Thank you Tamura. I understand your point. Its like calling Mothra (official English) as Mosura etc... "Giant_____" are the official English names of these creatures. But if someone could humor me and find what it would be transliterated as, this would be appreciated. Thank you.

* oh and please no "Giantu Seauu Seapanto"

I can't find any name for it. Due to the brief appearance, it may have no official name. "Umihebi" may be the name you end up using.

The Japanese Wikipedia page for KKE says "dai-umihebi".

Now you've just hurt Umihebi's feelings.

Is that a Kukla, Fran, and Ollie reference?

No, serpent and snake should have two different translations in Japanese.

Considering it doesn't have an official name in the first place, I don't think it matters too much. Wouldn't you say?

Of course it does. It's part of being a fan to have a thirst of knowledge for our, well, "hobby interest," lol. :P

The Giant Sea Snake, probably the most forgotten Toho Kaijus next to the giant octopus, Maguma, Black Moth, and the giant condor. While I kinda wish that Manda was in King Komg Escapes instead of the serpent, I still didn't mind the Giant Sea Serpent at all.

Though I'd must question. If the Giant Sea Serpent was suppose to be a gigantic Sea Snake, why didn't it had a venomous bite like a actual Sea Krait? It would have been interesting if it had a venomous bite since we don't have allot of Kaijus that uses poison on their opponents other then Kumonga.

Oh well, what can you do? ;)

Write a fan fic where it uses a venomous bite.
