Character discussion: Eric Carter
The U.N reporter has little to do with the movie, but, like Raymond Burr, he provides an American face to the film. Carter is the typical broadcaster, professional and has a good speaking voice.

Wasn't as good an addition as the Steve Martin character. Not only does he not effect the plot, but the plot never effects him.

I don't mind his added scenes in the Universal cut, but unlike Raymond Burr in King of the Monsters, they're strictly good for irony-watching, or briefly basking in the charm (if you can call it that) of uniquely American '60s kitsch.
