This is going to sound strange, but Star Wars actually helped me get used to reading subtitles in films. Two of my favorite scenes in the original trilogy were Han's confrontation with Greedo and Jabba's palace (as a side note, thanks George for ruining those scenes for me with the special editions, lol).

It sounds silly, but when I saw those movies at such a young age (seriously, I was like 3 or 4 when I first saw them) it helped me to not only gain reading comprehension skills, but also adjust to subtitles for films in general.

So by the time I was a teen and finally started to see the Godzilla films in their original Japanese cuts, there wasn't much of an adjustment for me at all.

I love the MvG US edit as well. The US Navy bombardment is one of my favorite scenes, and one of the main factors of me getting into the franchise.

Oh and congrats Godzilla 1995 for being upgraded to mod! I figured I'd say it here cause I never got the chance!

I like the extra effects scene in "Godzilla vs the Thing", but I prefer to watch it in Japanese anyway, since I enjoy the actor's natural voices and performances.

^I find the dubbing amusing, in fact probably the best of the series.

Disregarding the acting (as good as the dubbing is, it can't compare to the original Japanese) I actually think the US cut of Mothra vs. Godzilla is a stronger version of the film from a technical standpoint. The Frontier Missile attack is some of Tsuburaya's best work, some of the minor editing changes work really well for me (like cutting away to Godzilla when Kumayama is shot) and a few minor bits are trimmed down here and there streamlining the film a bit. I'm a bit conflicted whenever I get it out to watch it simply because I enjoy both versions about the same.

Which ever version I saw first as a kid is the version I most usually prefer. Which is why it royally bothers me that the American dubs of Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla may never see the light of day on Bluray/DVD.

For most films, it doesn't matter which version I watch. It depends on my mood.

I will always prefer the Japanese version of Gojira, but KotM is still a good film.

Godzilla Raids Again all the way. I have gotten to where I can hardly sit or pay attention to Gigantis......

King Kong vs Godzilla depends on my mood. The Japanese version is way better, but the US cut add more cheese to my liking.

I'll always prefer the US cut Godzilla vs the Thing because of the excellent dub and the Navy battle.

Ghidorah doesn't matter to me. Either version works.

Godzilla vs Monster Zero all the way. Nick Adams is better to hear in his native tongue.

Sea Monster also depends on my mood. There is really no difference in the two.

Son of Godzilla is a mixed bag. I will always prefer the AIP dub because I grew up with it, but I also like to listen to it in it's native tongue.

Destroy All Monsters also depends on my mood. The Japanese version is better on the ears, but I have nostalgia for the International Dub.

All Monsters Attack! gets the thumbs up here. While it has the ear-bleeding opening song, at least Minilla doesn't sound like Barney......

Godzilla vs Hedorah also depends on my mood. Growing up on the International dub, I would move more towards it, but the Japanese version sounds better.

Godzilla vs Gigan get the International dub because of Nostalgia and for it silly lines.

Godzilla vs Megalon will always be the International dub because of Nostalgia and because of MST3K.

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla also doesn't matter. There is also really no difference in the two.

Mechagodzilla's Counterattack gets my vote. The movie sounds better in it's native tongue and the uncut scenes make the overall movie much better.

Yeah Keye Luke (of Charlie Chan/Gremlins fame) voiced the main character. And later did the same in Rodan.

I usually prefer original language with subtittles, but some of the Showa dubs are fun, like Mothra as some have mentioned, and because I grew up watching it a lot, Gigan, though I realize it's not the best Showa movie. What's truly sad though, is that most of the Showa dubs are better than 95% of all the dubs after '74. The Heisei dubs are the epitome of sleep inducing, not to mention the poor audio quality.

I prefer the original Japanese versions as they were meant to be watched for all the Showa series of Godzilla movies. Not only that many of the American versions cut out some parts here and there so you miss out on some of the scenes. Even if its a few seconds of monster battles or a whole scene all together.

Japanese originals, always. I can't even enjoy the Americanizations in an ironic/campy way.

It depends on the movie. Some dubs are unbearable and some Japanese versions have serious flaws that the English versions fixed. War of the Gargantuas comes to mind as a movie that's almost unwatchable in Japanese to me because half the dialogue is dedicated to circular debates about whether or not a Gargantua and a Frankenstein are the same thing, while the US cut totally removes the Frankenstein connection and thus rids it of all those pointless conversations.

I like the Hong Kong Gargantuas dub that's just a regular dub of the Toho cut.

The original Japanese versions on all except King of the Monsters and 1985 due to purely nostalgic reasons.

I prefer the whole fucking lot! The Japanese, the US, the German, the Italian and the french. Its just too damn cool to have the many legends of Godzilla told in different ways in different countries.

Typically I prefer the dubs if only for nostalgia's sake. Though honestly if I watch something G54 or Rodan, I usually watch the originals

Japanese all day. I don't care for dubs in general because... I don't know, they take me out of the movie a lot. Especially when it's a case of the actor playing their part well, but the voice actor is being a giant hamlord. My hearing's also been pretty wrecked since I was about 2, and I watch everything with subtitles/captions anyway, so the reading part's a non-issue.

Or revert to an older dub that actually had effort (Mechagodzilla II's unused dub).
