Triassic/Jurassic period...2 million years ago.
So I finally got to watching the original Goijra last night, leauges ahead of KOTM btw. Anyway, one thing I never heard about with this movie was the palentologist talking about Godzilla's origin, claiming the Triassic/Jurassic ages were only about 2 million years ago.
Did they scientists and all actually believe it was that long ago in the 50s?

Nope, only careless screenwriters did.Maverick Centigrade wrote:So I finally got to watching the original Goijra last night, leauges ahead of KOTM btw. Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Many Movies tend to have that happen. For example. The Crater Lake Monster, where the creature is dubbed a Dinosaur, when a Plesiosaur wasn't actually one at all, but was still a reptile. Still love that movie though none the less.

Yeah, it was scripted to make the scientist look knowledgeable like a salesman.

Alot of movies at that time suffered from this. Maybe they thought the average person just didn't know how long ago Dinosaurs really lived.

The film "Valley of the Dragons" (1961) has a character saying that dinosaurs lived "a thousand centuries ago," which would be 100,000 years.

Most movies that mention dinosaurs have it wrong. People like what dinosaurs are, where they lived, how they lived, not when they lived. They just want to see dinosaurs in or out of their time period.
I cringe when any dino movie messes up. I did get into Kaiju 'cause Godzilla was a dinosaur.

Has to have been less than 6,000 years ago. Just ask Ken Ham.

Yeah, when I was a kid, my dad and I used to joke about Yamane's rather strange utterance of "phemumema."Gawdziller wrote:I'm watching the King of the Monsters edit for the first time in years. I never noticed but the same mistake is repeated during Yamane's dubbed speech.
Also of note, at least for me, is his weird pronunciation of the word "phenomenon." I am very tempted to make a Youtube video combining him and the Muppets.
"Phenominum."
"Doodoo-doodoodoo!"
"Phenominum."
"Doo-doodoo-doo!"
"Phenominum."
"Doodoo-doodoodoo-doodoodoo-doo-doodoo-doodoo-doo!"
And now I've got Mahna Mahna stuck in my head. Fortunately, I have both the Muppet Show episode and a collection of Piero Umiliani music which features his original recording from Svezia, Inferno e Paradiso.
Okay, now I kinda just want to spend the day listening to Piero Umiliani music.
And now I'm thinking how weird it would be to re-score Gojira entirely with Piero Umiliani music.
I just shouldn't start trains of thought in the morning...
