Lost Project Discussion: Cont: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963)

Post by Tohosaurus »

What do you guys think? The 1962 film was pretty conclusive and left little need to revisit a Godzilla-King Kong for the very next film. But that's just my take on it.

The first movie was conclusive enough. I doubt it could've surpassed the first movie, let alone been on par with it.

I don't know... it would be cool to see a rematch, as long as it's not the 70's and 80's kong. That would be a strange one.

If it was more serious, like everyone wants it to be, I don't think I would enjoy it as much. The original was a classic because of the campiness and the big duel between the monsters.

Maybe Minilla was some mutation inside a Kamacarus' ootheca and that's why they attacked..... Maybe Minilla ISN'T the Son of Godzilla! He's some weird Kamacari that Godzilla felt bad for!

..... Nope, the other guys would never accept that..........

I wouldn't have minded seeing a rematch between the two Monster Kings. Although then we wouldn't have gotten King Kong Escapes. But it does surprise me a wee bit that a rematch didn't occur sooner in the Showa Era seeing the Round One was perhaps the most successful flick.

According to the article on the main site, I understand it would've been a 60s (1963 or 1964) sequel to the original KKvG, not a 70s or 80s movie.

I feel Continuation may not have been well liked because Kong would have most likely won again. At least with the first film Kong winning makes a lot of sense and it has the magic of being the one time to two met but if Continuation came out I think the Godzilla fans would not have let it live up to expectations.

I doubt that would be the consensus in 1963.

In 1963 I'm sure it would have been a hit. I could see fans like were discussing now say they don't like the felt because it was a rehash and Godzilla lost twice. I would have loved for this movie to come out.
