Tokusatsu of the Silent Era

Not necessarily a Toho movie, but everyone needs to check this out.

This is a 1921 adaptation of Jiraiya, the same legend that the 1966 film The Magic Serpent is based. Of course, there is a giant frog, serpent, and bug in this film as well, although not necessarily "kaiju" as they aren't gigantic. However, that's not to say it isn't an early form of tokusatsu- there is some suit acting here! Haha, I mean, get a load of THIS, how is it NOT fantastic?:

I think I have just discovered my all time favorite silent movie.

Thanks for that. Interesting that you bring this up because I have Magic Serpent along with Destroy All Planets, one of those double feature DVDs. Cool find!!
