I was unsuccessful in fitting everything in the title. This is regarding King of the Monsters: Rebirth of Godzilla, a proposed remake of Godzilla (1954). How closely it would follow the 1954 film I am not sure. Personally, I think Toho made the right decision to look at other projects later on. That's only my opinion, though.

It prob would've been like the 70's remake of king kong (I think it was from the 70s) just really average and lame compared to the original. It was for the best that it was cancelled. The title was pretty cool though.

I disagree! I think this had the potential to be a great movie and have been sad it never happened from the moment I first discovered it.

I don't think it would've been lame, but the synopsis I read didn't do anything for me, not like Steve Miner's story idea did (although that's another can of worms for another discussion).

Its interesting that they were going to hire Jun Fukuda to direct it (who was by that time the go-to director for Toho's fx movies), since Fukuda's style was much different than the somber morality plays that Honda loved doing. But after all, Honda was burned out on kaiju films, especially since his last few movies were pretty lackluster.
It would have been interesting to see Fukuda tackle a remake of G54, although I don't think you can effectively retell the exact same story without losing the impact.

If you look at the 84 suit's head, it is shaped a lot like the megaro-goji suit from terror of mechagodzilla. Very similar brow and mouth, which is likely the result of Nakano using the previous suit as a starting block for the new design. The body is totally different, but the head is one of the traits that was kept in one form or another.Godzilla The King wrote:I assume they wouldn't use the same suit. The suit used in Mechagodzilla wouldn't fit this film as much as I love that suit. It probably would be something like 84, return Godzilla's appearance to its roots.

You know, I honestly would've loved to have seen this.
While it more than likely wouldn't have held a candle to the original, I think having a color remake of the original Godzilla with the tone of the Toho disaster flicks at the time with Fukuda directing and Nakano doing the special effects would've honestly have ben tight as shit. I'm sure it wouldn't be as somber as the original film, but a darker 70's Godzilla films on par with Toho's disaster movies at the time would've been a real treat.
