Godzilla's weakness?
In the 1954 Godzilla movie Godzilla has no problem destroying the huge electric fence they built to try and stop him but in King Kong vs Godzilla a new electrical fence they built stops him, does it have more of a high voltage? Another thing in Mothra vs Godzilla they manage to knock him down with electricity but in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla he gains power from lighting in one scene of the movie. So what's everyone's thought on Godzilla and electricity.

Honestly, I think it just comes down to whatever the screenwriters find convenient for a given story. Continuity and Godzilla aren't a good team.

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
If we are going to speculate on in-universe reasons for this, it should be taken into account that the Godzillas in Gojira and the later movies weren't the same individual. Maybe the original was more resistant to electricity than the next one.
The electo-magnet scene, though... I don't know what to make of that. Maybe the Xilliens did something to him while he was under their control, and it just took him that long to figure out how to use it. Or maybe it was a further mutation, possibly aided by all the weird things he's been exposed to over the years. Radiation, magic moth poison, huge amounts of electricity, various types of alien energy, Hedorah, and so on. You'd think all that stuff must have some effect on him. Maybe the development of new superpowers is that effect.

For sure. I thought G2K could have been a great start to a trilogy, if they hadn't killed off Katagiri.Tyler wrote:I'd still love to see a thought out Godzilla series limited to like 3 or 4 movies.eabaker wrote:Continuity and Godzilla aren't a good team.

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
Godzilla's relationship with voltage depends on the film. In Gojira, he's an unstoppable juggernaut to conventional arms. In KK vs G, he was weak to electricity to give Kong an advantage in battle. One of the themes in M vs G was how Godzilla is like an element of nature; You can try to stop it, but it's better to just get out of its way. The multiple plans became more drastic as they progressed, and artificial lightnning in the real world carries a massive shock. If Godzill were hit with it, it would knock him down. His electromagnet act is another example of script demand. They needed him to defeat MG, and so Godzilla went magnet.

I can't believe that Godzilla was the only surviving member of its species, but if we continue conducting nuclear tests, it's possible that another Godzilla might appear somewhere in the world again.

I assume he adapted to it, that's about the best answer you can get if you believe there is a Showa Continuity.

They may just be different like the 2 anguirus's. The first Godzilla may have just been a rougher and tougher then the 2nd GodzillaJAGzilla wrote:If we are going to speculate on in-universe reasons for this, it should be taken into account that the Godzillas in Gojira and the later movies weren't the same individual. I thought Ice may have been some kind of weakness since he didn't use his fire to melt it in Raids Again

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
I always had the theory that The First Godzilla was older and more resilient than the one in Godzilla Raids Again onward. At first, he isn't as resilient to electricity, then he is able to take the punishment, and later, he goes on to another level of power passed is elder and makes electricity a strength.

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
Isn't the electric fence in the original movie like 50,000 volts, and the one in King Kong vs Godzilla 500,000 volts or something like that?
But even so that part still confused me because in the original movie Godzilla used his breath weapon on the fence when it annoyed him (Which was like the first time he was actually shown using it.) while in KKVSG he showed that it hurt him, but didn't even try using his breath he just looked at it and moved on.

He can not resist the lovely taste of a nice Godzilla-size cherry pie sitting on a window seal. Why does he never discover that there's a bomb hidden in there? Because it tastes so good. That's why.schvanzbass wrote:Pie, the foul temptress.

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
... the most obvious weakness that comes to mind is sharp objects. i recall in one of his conflagrations with mechagodzilla he takes a missile to the shoulder and blood spills ...
... another weakness is mind-control, as it's a weakness of all the monsters when they come under the influence of aliens such as in destroy all monsters ...

Re: Godzilla's weakness?
I wouldn't say electricity is Godzilla's weakness.
The reason why the lighting didn't harm Gojira badly is because it was at a lower voltage. Only at about 50,000 volts.
In Mothra vs G, the army sets up giant electric rods to stock Godzilla. I think the voltage on those rods where about 300,000 volts. Much more that the power lines in Gojira 54 & King Kong's electric hands.
As the series progress, Godzilla kept getting electrical up to the point where it didn't harm him that much anymore & in G vs MechaG, he found a way to use the electricity to his advantage.

Chemical weapons have proven quite effective, but I'm not sure if it would count as a weakness.
