Re: Least Favorite 50's and 60's Godzilla Movie
I don't see much of a point in adding the '50s films. Not only are their only two of them, but 99.9% of the people replying will pick GODZILLA over GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN..

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

Oh, that's easy: Godzilla's Revenge!
EDIT:
@Goji: I think he added the '50s movies on the off chance somebody dislikes Godzilla Raids Again more than Godzilla's Revenge.

There is not a single movie on that list that I don't like. I really can't choose.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Too bad. OP said to pick one.eabaker wrote:There is not a single movie on that list that I don't like. I really can't choose.
Probably Godzilla's Revenge. It rips off Home Alone.

Although Godzilla Raids Again is a poorly made film, I dislike All Monsters Attack more. I find AMA to be an insult to motion picture storytelling, even for kids.

I'm kinda surprised by the amount of votes Godzilla's Revenge is getting. I thought it was a fun film, and I was always under the impression that fans have warmed up to it by now. Shows how much I know, I suppose.
I voted GRA. I don't think it's a terrible film, but it isn't as fun or exciting as any of the others.

Q: Will we see that monster that Bryan was going to reveal this morning at the press conference?
Cranston: Oh yeah! The only Godzilla movie with an X-rating.

There's something terribly ironic about someone with a Minya avatar saying REVENGE is "an insult to motion picture storytelling, even for kids".
Neither can I. All I can really say is that REVENGE is the one that I re-watch with the least frequency. It's good fun..but look at what it's up against!eabaker wrote:There is not a single movie on that list that I don't like. I really can't choose.

Except that picture is not associated with Godzilla's Revenge in any way, shape or form. I just chose this avatar because he cracks me up and nobody else has it. It's far more amusing than the millionth Godzilla avatar.Goji wrote:There's something terribly ironic about someone with a Minya avatar saying REVENGE is "an insult to motion picture storytelling, even for kids".

Except it kinda is, considering the Minya in FINAL WARS is 100% representative of the Minya from REVENGE, but sure, okay.
I'll say this, I find RAIDS AGAIN to be the most "boring" of the Showa Godzilla films, but I still like it. I find GIGANTIS to me much more entertaining, personally. The dubbing is humorous, some of the dialogue is golden, and the music borrowed from other '50's B-movies really contribute to the mood. It's a nice piece of '50s sci-fi shlock more in vein of American genre movies of the time, and I think that's why (now that I'm older), I enjoy it for what it is.

Well it did rip off Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.Legion1979 wrote:So this is basically the "Godzilla's Revenge" hate thread then, where everyone picks on this poor kids film for being the stupid insult to "adult" fans that were NEVER it's main audience in the first place? That stinks.
Because it's a boring film. It was churned out in almost no time, even by Toho standards, and it really shows. There really isn't a part of this movie that doesn't feel like a cash-in attempt.I picked GRA. I don't think it's a bad film, but it bores me.

He's saying that criticizing a movie's title does not count as valid criticism.GojirO wrote:oh i'm sorry Legion. ALL MONSTERS ATTACK: The only real monsters attacking are the children

Re: Least Favorite 50's and 60's Godzilla Movie
i know i just was trying to be somewhat funny.
anywho Godzilla's Revenge/All Monsters Attack is one of my least favorited due to it's pveruse of stock monster fights (when you use fights from other movies it gets old. I mean sure the movie DESTROY ALL MONSTERS does the same stuff but I like that because it doesnt just RELY on it like this one seems to)

Same here. I tossed that VHS out and watched Monster Zero instead.Gawdziller wrote:Even as a kid I disliked it. Re: Least Favorite 50's and 60's Godzilla Movie
Im surprised about godzilla raids again, aka gigantis the fire monster. I thought that was a fun movie. Godzilla (or gigantis) getting buried by the avalanche was a fun scene. But godzillas revenge... Man, thats a title a regretably own just to have a complete collection. Have i ever opened it? Nope. It just fills a void.
Sorry Kiryu
