That might be because he was going at it solo against two kaiju, while the second time around he had Titanosaurus on his side against one kaiju. So from a narrative standpoint they kind of watered him down, put him on the back burner to crank up Titanosaurus as a threat.

I guess that's a fair point.

I think its also because I liked the performance of the suit actor more in GvsMG than I did in
ToMG.

I honestly think the duo of MechaGodzilla & Titanosaurus was kind of underplayed in the film.
Like they should have been more dominant...but after a couple of key moments of human
intervention Godzilla scored the win pretty easily.

Now that I think about it...its a shame they didn't have Anguirus return during the final battle...
just to even the odds. It would have made a lot of sense considering what happened in GvsMG
& Angurius had already fought alongside Godzilla in vs. Gigan. Then MechaGodzilla & Titanosaurus
could have at least beat down Angurius with a vicious double team showing how powerful they
really were.

But now I'm overthinking the issue.

God damn it that would've been so good! Thanks for ruining the film for me, Grievous.

Spoiler:
Katsura keeping his brain intact in her stomach
as opposed to the head not being able to forcibly turn like the original, so I would say 1975 is the more powerful version.

Taken together, I think that both versions of the original Mechagodzilla are the deadliest enemy that Godzilla ever battled.

Mechagodzilla's (and here I'm considering them as two versions of one robot) weaponry is second to none and its weaknesses are few. In fact, it was only due to mistakes made on the part of its own alien creators that Godzilla was able to defeat it.

Think about it. In GvsMG, if the Simeons had not panicked and ran, but instead had continued Mechagodzilla's ray-blasting, dive-bombing attack, they might have won the battle. Also, the second time around, in ToMG, if they had not placed Mechagodzilla II's control device in the body of Katsura Mafune, the robot would not have been deactivated upon her death and and destroyed by Godzilla.

If these things hadn't happened, Mechagodzilla just might have succeeded where all others had failed and actually killed Godzilla. In fact, it came just this close to doing just that-and twice, for that matter! That's an accomplishment if I ever saw one!

So, in the end, which version is the most powerful? Simple-they both are, hands down.

But relying on an outside source for control only made him easier to take down.

It was (in my opinion) a stupid decision by the aliens & they would have been
better off installing the control device into MechaGodzilla's right foot.

74 makes more sense...therefore is more powerful.

Also in 74 MechaGodzilla smacked Anguirus around, had a draw with Godzilla
in their first encounter & then took on King Caesar & Godzilla 2 on 1 & was
only defeated because Godzilla developed a new power out of nowhere & was
able to restrain the robot enough for King Caesar to hit a few shoulder tackles
leading to Godzilla's neck crank decapitation.

MechaGodzilla didn't really do anything in 75.

1. Well, in my opinion, it was rather clever. The only way anybody (besides the people who were a part of the process) would know was exactly how whats his face did: being told.

2. Also, he and Titanosaurus beat Godzilla. He did come back for a second round, but Mechagodzilla did take him down.

3. Beating up Anguirus is not a feat. Anguirus, for all his tenacity, is a pushover without a partner.

4. We did get build up to the magnetism power. Not very clear build up, granted, but build up nonetheless.

Fair call...

It just seemed stupid to me. I mean...anything can happen
to a person at any given time...a giant robot...not so much.

I mean what if Katsura was hit by a car? Or contracted food
poisoning...or fell in love with one of the films heroes?

Oh wait...
HillyHulk wrote:2. Also, he and Titanosaurus beat Godzilla. He did come back for a second round, but Mechagodzilla did take him down.
Yeah...I don't count it because there wasn't a large enough
gap of time for me to even consider it a defeat.

It was more Godzilla was in a submission hold &
didn't tap out.

Wrestling reference.

Hey...show some respect to Anguirus please.

Are you referring to the scene where Godzilla is struck multiple
times by lightning?

1. The last part is fair enough, but as for her physical body, the thing should remain functional as long as it isn't damaged. It is electronic unlike the rest of the body.

2. I will when Anguirus doesn't have a fight that's mostly a one sided beat down.

3. Yes I am. I'm not sure how, but the movie seems to point to that being the source of his magnetism.

Ehh...it still seems stupid to me.

You know...as much as I want to defend Anguirus...he
really is the "likeable jobber" of the kaiju community.

Another wrestling reference...

Yeah...I don't buy that.

Lightning = Magnetism?

Yeah, I have no idea either. That just seems to be what the movie seems to be saying about the magnetism.
