First definitely goes to Godzilla 1954. I swear by the classics.
I also love 1955, but I didn't grow up with him so he's not as memorable for me. For the second choice, it's going to have to be 1962.
I love the other Showa suits fine, but Godzilla 54 and 62 were the two that I fondly remember and grew up watching.

My favorite showa suit has to be the 1965 daisensogoji suit. (not the derp cookie monster version from Ebirah)
I think it is a neutral design, meaning it would work as a dark, menacing Godzilla, like in 1954, and as the heroic savior of the earth Godzilla, like in Megalon.
#1: MosuGoji, specifically with the Mothra vs Godzilla head. Probably the most evil look for Godzilla in the Showa era, and by far my favorite.
#2: ShodaiGoji. Can't go wrong with the creepy, crazy look of the original.
#3: MegaroGoji. Probably an unpopular pick, but what can you expect when the two original MechaGodzilla films are a couple of my absolute favorites? Great look for a heroic Goji, though the marshmallow plates hold it back from being truly great (I actually kinda like the puppy dog eyes).
For anyone wondering why the 62 suit isn't in my top three, I've never liked it. I've always thought that the head was too small, goofy-looking, and I think the squished appearance of the top of the head really hurts it. As a kid, Vs King Kong was one of my least favorites to watch because I found both suits to be pretty bad-looking. I like the film more now, but my opinion on the suits hasn't changed much. But, more power to those who like the 62 suit, even if I'll never quite understand its popularity.
It's interesting how people don't seem to understand the difference between "the best" and "their favorite". Their IS NO best.

Mosu-Goji is still far & away my favorite suit - Showa or otherwise - but I've recently come to appreciate Daisenso-Goji. Actually, Daisenso-Goji's portrayal is my favorite in the franchise.
These covers aren't really the most flattering things but it gets the point across.
Godzilla got is first share of crystal meth from one of his monster comrades.
Anyway, the MosuGoji suit is my favorite, with the '54 suit a close second.
