I have the Japanese cut with subs, if you're interested.

I'm not quite sure. When Classic Media decided to renew the contracts for the Godzilla films,RODAN, and WOTG in 2005, the new deal gave them the rights to use the US and Japanese versions of each film (international and other foreign versions were not part of the agreement), with Toho providing Japanese versions and (if needed) whatever US versions they had. So going by how all the other films were handled, Toho would have had to provide a Japanese version of NOSTRADAMUS had Classic Media kept the license for that title. According to paperwork I have from Classic Media, for the Japanese versions Toho provided new transfers from 35mm low contrast prints. Whether Toho would have done the same for NOSTRADAMUS is unknown, but my guess is they would have at least tried to be consistent.

If only Classic Media released the film....on the side note, I've asked Discotek Media, Media Blasters and Criterion if they can get the film.

That's a step in the right direction.

Just rewatched Half Human today. Before, I've watched the movie without any subs, not knowing what's going on. Now that I've gotten the subs, I've enjoyed the movie a lot more. I like how the story was told in a flashback, how the monster wasn't all that evil before the circus people killed his son. I guess I kinda see why this film is banned because the natives portrayed in the movie are just really over-the-top, especially the Grand Elder. Still, one can hope for a official, maybe non-offensive cut of the film to be out.

Eh, I wouldn't recut it. It's kind of a lost treasure. I'd just add a preface like a lot of companies do regarding audio commentaries: "The depictions of certain indigenous peoples in this film do not reflect the views or opinions of Toho Co., Ltd..."

I think since he was a pacifist, he probably didn't like the portrays of natives.

Were they even supposed to be Ainu, though? I've heard they weren't, but I'm not sure.

No, but he grew up with Ainu and respected them.

Where to find Japanese version of Half Human

Post by Half Human Hunter »

Greetings fans. I come to you begging for help.
I have recently become obsessed with finding a copy of the Japanese version of Half Human. I understand there is one with english subtitles floating around with a time code appearing at the top of the screen. This movie has been on my mind ever since I first heard about it and I've only recently become determined to view it for myself. I have spent the entire day searching for where to possibly purchase this and have come up with naught but a possible torrent of which I'm skeptical and a discussion among your forum users. In this discussion one of this site's members asks where to find a copy of the Japanese version of Half Human of which another replies: "I'll PM you" and does not actually post where one might find it. I need to find this movie. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.
I do not want to watch the American version as I fear it might in some way ruin the experience and yet, I am growing so desperate to view any portion of the film that I am slowly beginning to consider purchasing a copy.

Good lord! Thank you very much. However, I am still keen on owning a physical copy. Are there any leads in that respect?
