Excellent news - the movie is an absolutely gorgeous technicolor production and should look great. Here's hoping for Whale God and Demon of Mt. Oe sometime.

Not only The Whale God, but maybe these Daiei films also:

*Rainbow Man,
*Enter the Invisible Man,
*The Invisible Man vs. the Human Fly,
*The Invisible Demon,
*The Invisible Swordsman.

Who knows? Maybe even the Daimajin trilogy and the Yokai Monsters trilogy?

If we're going to dream here, let's dream big, and I do mean big!

I've heard that they're working on Enter The invisible Man and The Invisible Man vs. Human Fly.

Awesome! I've only seen this incredibly dubious release on DVD:

Some of the destruction scenes were well done and I had a feeling the film would have been way better if presented properly. Excited for what will come of this!

These are the big ones for me after the Gamera set.

It would be cool to get the Daimajin Kanon series and Miike's Great Yokai War too.

I used to have this movie on DVD. I watched the first few minutes once, saw how silly and unconvincing the starfish alien costumes were, and gave up. Now that I'm not a cynical teenager, maybe it's time I gave it another shot...

Just thought the Japanese poster was cool and does a little more justice for the film by incorporating some of the "science aspects" into the poster:
Image

On the topic of titles:
The Japanese title is "The Spacemen Appear in Tokyo".
"Uchūjin Tokyo ni arawaru"

There's a really pathetically missed pun here. Uchujin is Spacemen/Alien (jin is literally human/person/people like). Seijin is used similar in Japanese for alien, but literally means "other star/star people". You see this a lot in Ultraman, "Baltan-seijin", "Maguma Seijin", and "Meflias Seijin". The pun they missed out here, was not calling the film "Seijin Tokyo ni arawaru" or "The Starmen appear in Tokyo". Just like English, Star can be used interchangeably to mean both the shape and the planetary object.

The title in Japanese is fine, but damn they missed out on a good pun. Maybe they didn't want to draw attention to the shape of the aliens?
Also, Warning From Space works as well; the film title is a little on the nose, and generic, but I like it. A lot of people call this film silly and cheap, and while it certainly might take some cues from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), I can't help but feel this film doesn't have enough discussion around it considering how it pre-dates a lot of really important SF films.

Related to the design of the creatures, while in the film they have issues with their execution, I don't think we can call the designs lazy. They look simple to us, but they were designed by Taro Okamoto, the designer of The Tower of the Sun.

It's a shame what the actual costumes look like in the film.

It'll have to do for now, as far as I can see. Failing that, The Invisible Demon.

But why continue to use it if you're being told it's an incorrect translation?

Sorry about that, I didn't know that you were telling me that it was incorrect.

So, I guess it's The Invisible Demon, then.

A pre-order page for the UK disc has appeared: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08DST1VJL

Coming October 12
The first Japanese science fiction film to be made in colour, Koji Shima s Warning From Space features eye-popping special effects from the same team at Daiei Studios that would bring Gamera to life a decade later.

As Japan is rocked by mysterious sightings of UFOs over Tokyo and large one-eyed aliens attempting contact, scientists collaborate to investigate the unexpected rise in extraterrestrial activity. Unbeknownst to them, one of the aliens has already assumed human form and is about to deliver a very important message that could be humanity s last hope for survival.

With a witty script by Hideo Oguni (screenwriter of several Akira Kurosawa classics including Seven Samurai) and iconic starfish-like aliens designed by avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto, the original Japanese version of Warning From Space finally makes its official English-language video debut.

I don't know if anything was removed but they did add "new" material of the Pairans at the beginning and end.

I forgot to check here before posting in the Media section.

I've not yet seen this film, but it sounds like Arrow will be giving it a quality release, so I'm sure I'll pick it up to show support!
