Worst movie director of all time
Who's the worst movie director of all time? One's known for notoriously awful game adaptations, one for notoriously awful "spoofs", two for really bad explosion porn movies with tropey characters and butchering of beloved franchises (Transformers and Godzilla), one for notoriously bad torture porn movies (Eli Roth), one for making a godawful trilogy of films that's gross just for the sake of it, one for notoriously bad horror films with B-movie scripts and logic holes, one for butchering of DC movie adaptations and original IPs (Sucker Punch), and one for his butchering of adaptations of classic videogames and horror/sci-fi flicks. So, who's the worst?
Of those choices, Seltzberg is the worst IMO. I would say Uwe Boll, but his movies at least have a "so bad they're good/funny" vibe to them (gotta love petrified teens suddenly becoming Matrix-dodging kung fu masters when fighting zombies in HotD ), and they at least have SOME semblance of a plot. Seltzberg's movies you can't even sit back and laugh at how stupid they are, and they actually ARE supposed to make you laugh because they're comedies, and virtually no plot. They don't even really qualify as movies, nothing but shit jokes, corny pop culture references and people getting crushed by something, stuff that only someone with the mindset of a 2 year old would find funny. There's a reason why they WERE 2 of the 6 writers from Scary Movie: they were fired for being talentless hacks.

Pretty shocked that Tommy Wiseau didn't make it onto the poll. Ditto Ed Wood.
I might lean towards Harold P. Warren or Brad F. Grinter, though.

Difficult because of a lot of factors. I would say it goes to Uwe Boll because the guy is just a complete ass. At least with the majority of other people on the list, they have some reason to validate their success. I can`t find anything of his funny.
Micheal Bay is a bad director, but he can at least make movies and handle criticism. Same goes for pretty much everyone else on the list. Aaron Seltzer/Jason Friedberg do not make actual movies, but again they don`t seem to be inflammatory assholes. Roland Emmirich, despite all the BS with Godzilla, can actually make big budget films and have a "finished product".
Hostel is a good film, if you analyze it through the lens of it being a response to torture and GITMO. The whole thing is also a satire of how American`s are super scared of leaving their own country and "foreignness". I think Hostel is actually a great film. Cabin Fever is fun as well. I don`t think Eli Roth deserves to be on that list, because he can actually make good films.

Larry Buchanan: even when given decent scripts he managed to turn out stuff that looked like it had been made by someone totally unfamiliar with movies.

Shane Black.
Literally because The Predator exists.
Fuck that movie.
Fuck literally every single tiny insignificant little detail about that movie.

Shane Black has at least directed some really good films in the past. While I think The Predator is a contender for one of the worst films in years, and the casting controversy really makes him look bad, he`s still not the worst.Kaiju-King42 wrote:Shane Black.

Re: Worst movie director of all time
Except Uwe Boll, who has actually never made a good movie and acts pretty shitty irl, none of these directors come close to being the worst director of all time. In fact, I can name at least 1 good film from a good majority of these directors:
Roland Emmerich : Independence Day
Michael Bay: The Rock
M. Night Shaymalan : Unbreakable
Zack Snyder : Dawn of the Dead
Paul W.S. Anderson : Alien vs Predator (before some chucklefuck goes "But it's PG-13!!!" then let's go with Event Horizon)
The Predator is not the worst film ever made, Jesus H. fucking Christ. It's not even the worst Predator movie because of AVP R.
Edit: Okay, after looking up who Tom Six actually is, yeah, he does kinda actually belong on this list. So I voted for him. But the directors I listed above definitely do not deserve to be called 'worst director'.

Lol no AvP:R is not worst then The Predator. At least that felt like a Predator movie.
The Predator though felt like a damn parody and insults people with autism (Among those being me since I have it) with the Yautja trying to weaponize it as the next step in evolution? Like wut? Who wrote that idea in the script?

Re: Worst movie director of all time
In defense of Tom Six, his output/niche is significantly smaller then anyone on the list. He pretty much made bank on one movie, and made two more after that. Compare that to Uwe`s countless braindead explotation films, that are poor satire, mixed in with his weird fetishzation of horrific events like school shootings and concentration camps all under the guise to "raise awareness".2004Zilla wrote:Except Uwe Boll, who has actually never made a good movie and acts pretty shitty irl, none of these directors come close to being the worst director of all time. I fucking hate Uwe Boll's films as well, but he always seems like the go-to punching bag when it comes to shitty movies (which he does deserve). I think I just wanted to spice things up a bit by not voting for him.LSD Jellyfish wrote: In defense of Tom Six, his output/niche is significantly smaller then anyone on the list. I'mma have to break this up and say AvPR's Wolf was a bad Muthrfukr, yeah you couldn't see him but he was like Snake Eyes with his kills.2004Zilla wrote:How's it feel like a Predator movie if you can't even see the predator?GodzillaFan1990's wrote:Lol no AvP:R is not worst then The Predator. Shurikens through innocents, body dissolving, straight neck to brain penetration... Dude was intense.
Now, The Predator? I really liked the main guys right hand man, the dude who put the cig out on his tongue, those 2 had a cool dynamic that felt "Predator". The actual "Predator", for the whole one act he's in, was actually pretty beast, massacred an entire armed science unit naked, didn't kill unarmed prey, and would've cooked the protagonists if not for FeeFiFoFum-Walk-On-Stilts PredatorINO.

Re: Worst movie director of all time
And you know the movie is bad when they have the Predator of all things use a severed guys arm with a thumbs up and stick it through a window telling the driver everything is okay.
A father using normal mail packaging that contains advanced alien technology and shipping it to his house where his son is. Nothing can possibility go wrong there!
Have a kid accidentally murder a guy at his house with a Predator mask and brush it off like nothing and not horrified he just committed murder.
Have forced cringey humor like "Skreeonking an aardvark".
Ignoring what made the yautja unique to begin with being hunters with strict codes to suddenly deciding to take over the earth as soon as humanity dies due to global warming.
Ending with Predator suits looking straight out of Power Rangers.
Like really? Who wrote this film and thought all of this was a good idea?

Re: Worst movie director of all time
I like Wolf too, he's the highlight of the movie. Dude had a missing mandible from xeno acid, that's pretty hardcore. Studio ADI doesn't disappoint with their practical effects, and all the creature stuff is awesome. My main issue is that the Brothers Strause are a bunch of clowns and can't direct worth a shit compared to Shane Black. I still think the first half of The Predator is a pretty decent splatterfest flick._JNavs_ wrote:I'mma have to break this up and say AvPR's Wolf was a bad Muthrfukr, yeah you couldn't see him but he was like Snake Eyes with his kills.2004Zilla wrote:How's it feel like a Predator movie if you can't even see the predator?GodzillaFan1990's wrote:Lol no AvP:R is not worst then The Predator. If you cut out all the scenes with the pizza time kid and his brother and instead focused on Wolf as the main character, while brightening the film, then I would agree that AVP R is better than The Predator.

none of these are eligible for 'worst director' except for uwe boll who's quantifiably incompetent at making a film

Most these directors can usually get at least passable performances out of their actors, something I'm not sure Uwe Boll is capable of.
