People are treating this like it's the second coming of the bubonic plague. It's absurd. That's what the media wants you to believe. Let me tell ya, they are so bloodthristy and greedy for ratings that they'd throw a bag of kittens in front of an incoming fright train and record the results live just for ratings and nothing else.

Sorry, but unless millions of people are dropping dead every day with crows, vultures, and coyotes eating corpses on the streets, then this is just overhyped bullcrap.
I mean I kinda get the concern tbh. Its not only for the health but there's the fact hospitals are getting flooded. There's only so much room they can have and if hospitals get flooded the harder it is to contain. Plus the economy and shipping and marketing as well as possibility of mutating if we let it just spread. No matter how potent whenever an new virus is discovered its gotta be contained.

That said I got no concern for myself. I'm an healthy guy as an whole despite having bowel syndrome and don't pig out as much as I used too. If it comes where I live I'm more concerned about my grandpa...

Sugar in general should. There's nutritionists who think it should be regulated, and we know sugar companies pay off food companies to dump it in food that doesn't need it so people crave more sugar and go out to buy candy cause they know it's addictive. Dicks are contributing to Americas failing health.

Yeah all the countries of the world have just made the decision to force people to stay home and tank their own economies and industries for ratings!

Yeah and I don't know what part of New York City you live in, but I heard things are getting pretty dire, or at least panicky. My mother's business has been impacted and my friend who drives the F train was telling me that the trains are suddenly way less crowded during peak hours. Only a matter of time until it gets worse and worse and worse.

Not to sound dire or anything, I myself said for the past few pages not to panic, and worry more about the virus's repercussions itself (unless you're elderly or have bad health).

I like this idea that not drinking soda suddenly makes you immune to the virus btw. :P

I live over in LI now and people are panicking even more than right before Hurricane Sandy. I guess because there's a lot of schools, retirees, families, and elderly folk here. But yeah, i'm hearing subways are empty, which is a big shock. Like you said, it's not the virus we have to worry about, it's the mass hysteria, panic, and overall mob mentality, that can completely flip a country into a pretty rough situation. Let alone if the virus evolves into something even more dangerous.

Even me, i have my mom, my grandma, and my uncle to worry about. I guess i'm okay since i'm 19 so i won't die, but they're all above 40 and 2 out of 3 of them have respiratory issues. So it's definitely a stresser.

The way I see it, there's no point in stressing over it. Keep good hygiene, keep an eye on the news (but don't obsess over it), make sure your medicine cabinet is stocked. As far as pandemics go this one isn't that bad, and panicking over it is liable to cause more damage than the virus itself.

I have a very slight fever and I'm freaking out. No cough yet, but I feel tired and really shitty. I can't tell if that's a result of psychology or not. I didn't sleep well last night. It's flu season and most people around me at work are sick. Sucks cause I think I'm probably just being paranoid. Axillary says I have a body temp of 37 C/98.6.

I took a deep breath, and realized I'm probably just sick. While I did take a bus, I was one of two people on it. While I did go out and party last saturday, I was in a place with less than five people, and washed my hands and exercised extreme precaution with both handwashing and what I physically touched. Most likely I'm just sick normally. But I still can't help but worry. It's going to suck over the next month, with it being flu season worrying about this.

As far as the USA is concerned, it's not much worse than a bad flu epidemic. But some people are getting panicky. A Texas grocery chain has started rationing bottled hand soap/hand sanitizer to four per person per visit, in order to keep it on the shelves...

And as far as sugar is concerned - true dat! I've pretty much eliminated it from my diet. My one sugar vice is the sweet creamer I put in my coffee. That, and I stay away from simple carbs, like bread, cereal, white rice, white potatoes, white pasta. Most of what I eat comes from the Meat Group and Fruit/Vegetable Group. For Dairy, I eat butter and hard cheese, that's all. And I'm STILL losing weight...

As someone in Texas, that would be HEB and yeah, I can say its needed as I went to Costco recently and EVERYTHING was gone.

But yeah, no need to panic but I did see this - WHO states Caronavirus is now a Pandemic

All the shops here, have started rationing hand soap & sanitizer, as well as some food stuffs. I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not scared, but I just have to keep calm and carry on. Nothing else for it and suggest that everyone else do the same.

I don't know about that. Even with a flu epidemic, you have a number of people who've already received their flu shots. There's no such preventative measure for COVID-19 yet, which is why people are refusing to go out.

NCAA games will not allow fans in, only staff and limited family in effort to prevent spread of coronavirus

My university and half the universities in the state have extended spring break by a week and are moving to indefinite online instruction afterwards

Which state? I'm in NY and all SUNY facilities are to be closed starting March 19th and switching to online for the rest of the semester.
