Re: What are you reading/last book you read
GoT already has my attention. I do the bulk of my reading during breaks at work, and the plan was to keep it there in my locker until I finish it, but I cracked and brought it home to read a couple more chapters this morning. It's been a long time since I've been that invested in a book.
I've also started All Yesterdays, and it's also very good. The authors make a lot of cool, obvious-in-hindsight observations, like that all we ever see Tenontosaurus do in paleoart is be torn apart by Deinonychus, as opposed to just living its life. So they draw it just taking a walk.

I hope it brings you as much joy as it has me. A Song of Ice and Fire is a beautiful series. I just wish the next book would come out. lol

I found out that more of them were destroyed on the ground via Allied airstrikes then were actually shot down by fighters.
I already knew that was a far more durable fighter plane then all other Japanese fighters at the time it entered service, but I was surprised that many people were made aces. It's a bit sombering how so few survived. But I saw two that caught my eye. Sgt. Susumu Kajinami, who returned to Japan as a 24 kill ace and Cap Nagao Shirai, who shot down 11 B-29's and 2 F6Fs.
Here's what the plane looked like.
Yeah, the IJA fighters were always overshadowed by the their navy's counterpart in pop-culture. So it's always harder to find some good info on them.
Actually, if you go on Amazon, you'll find quite a number of books about Japanese fighters besides the A6M Zero. Not only that, but the Ki-61 was actually celebrated in late-1944 and 1945 as one of the few fighter planes that could intercept the B-29 at high altitude.

I have just finished reading The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West. It was a beautiful and tragic story. It's not long, but very well developed.

Just finished Game of Thrones. God, what a ride. Most novels I read lately, I'll be kinda bored by the end, ready to move on to something else. This masterpiece had me on the edge of my seat every page of the way, and just left me needing more. I'll take a little break before Clash of Kings, though, during which time I'm thinking I'll revisit Michael Chrichton's The Lost World. I read it two or three times as a kid, but I was just blasting through looking for dinosaur action back then. I remember being disappointed for the most part, but I guess it's time I give it a real read-through as an adult.

Just finished Daikaiju Yuki. I can see why people are talking about this. A fun kaiju story that's original while still respecting some of the series roots. (there's one character who feels like he walked straight out of a 60's Toho flick). Pacing was a bit fast at times, but still an enjoyable ride that I can't wait to see the rest of the series for.
Currently reading Artemis by Andy Weir. Loved the Martian so I can't wait to read another book of his.

"Raffael Coronelli"
Yeah sounds like the type of guy that would write something called Daikaiju Yuki
Anyways, currently re-reading/studying Hamlet again.

James Stokoe is fantastic and it's a shame people only really know him for his Godzilla work.Ultraman02 wrote:Orc Stain.

Anyways, I'm reading some short stories by Raymond Carver, an author I may choose to heavily write about for my masters.

Just finished two books: "Hope Never Dies" and "Hope Rides Again". They're mystery novels starring Joe Biden and Barrack Obama as amateur detectives. They are actually very good mystery novels with plenty of humor throughout.
Please no political discussion due to this post. All I'm doing is posting two books I've read recently.

I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

I am still working my way through all the Star Wars EU books I've been reading for the better part of 3 years.
I have I, Jedi and Crucible left and I'll be done with all the ones currently in my possession.
