Review

This is a promotional DVD that was released by Shogakukan for the 2003 show The Gransazers. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how the disc was distributed. The DVD itself is, of course, now long out of print though. Some might find interesting that the short 15 minute episode contained inside is, in fact, an original "plot", yet it does rely heavily on stock footage for the first half. It's at least a little note worthy, though, for displaying the rarely seen English title of the show. The merits of the episode aside, this disc does have a nice video and audio presentation of the short feature, yet lacks almost entirely when it comes to supplemental content.

 Video:

The video quality is solid on this disc, as one would have hoped for considering Shogakukan had the task of only fitting a mere 16 minutes of video on the disc. Overall, the video looks good without any visible signs of print damage while the colors are very distinct on this release. The episode definitely could have stood to be a bit sharper, but this likely has to do with the movie not being made using high grade film stock.

The episode is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.33:1, or full screen.

 Audio:
The disc only contains a single audio track, which is a two channel stereo presentation in Japanese. The lone track is good in terms of quality, though, with clear dialogue and no inconsistencies for the episode's short duration.

 Extras:

Menus? Nope. Chapters? Not a one. The only thing one will find in this respect is a trio of Gransazer related commercials that play after the episode, which range from the awesome one for Logia's Hori-Sniper to the extremely cute one for the Sazer-Tarious "gear."

 Overview:

Bottom line, I can't really think of many people who would be interested in this disc. The video and audio quality is fine, of course, but there just isn't really enough to this release for that to matter. It's definitely got a collector's angle to it, but being a bare bones DVD with only 16 minutes of content makes it not really a practical purchase. The episode itself also appears as an extra on the 12th disc of the series from Toho, so avid fans of the show have a much more promising alternative to watch the feature.
