Built in 1963 and with the experience of using
British made 8-inch howitzers during the First
World War, the American-made weapon would give
general support to troops in the field, counter
enemy guns and suppress air defenses. It would
see service in the Vietnam War as well as the
Persian Gulf War as both the United States and
the British armies had the weapon in their arsenal.
However, after the Persian Gulf, the weapon was
retired from service as advances in technology
made 155mm howitzers more effective in combat.
Like many other weapons it had in its inventory,
the United States military exported the M110 to
many different nations, with Japan being among
them. When Godzilla re-appeared in 1984, the M110A2s
went into action as the Japanese Self Defense
Forces attempted to stop Godzilla from reaching
Tokyo. Confronting the king of the monsters in
Tokyo Bay, the M110A2s put up a spirited defense
but were eventually destroyed with Godzilla incinerated
the entire line of ground forces opposing him
from the shore with a long blast of his atomic
breath.
They would next see action when Godzilla returned
in 1989. While not engaging Godzilla at Lake Ashino
as he battled the genetically engineered plant
monster Biollante, they would see action near
Wakasa Bay as the JSDF attempted to lure an ANEB
infected Godzilla into range of the M 6000 TCS
system. As before, Godzilla destroyed a large
number of them with his atomic breath.
When a mysterious UFO landed in Japan in 1992,
the M110A2s moved out along with other armored
fighting vehicles of the JSDF to surround the
mysterious spaceship and perhaps attack it if
things got out of control. Fortunately, the spaceship's
occupants, who were humans from the future, appeared
outside the ship in the form of holograms and
defused the situation for the moment.
